The Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto in Portuguese) is the most important religious edifice in the city and it is classified as a National Monument.
The Cathedral was built in the 12th and 13th centuries, in Romanesque style and its adjacent Gothic cloister in the 14th century. However it was built and renovated numerous times. This explains why the Cathedral is a mix of architectural styles. The square also offers impressive views over the city, the Douro River and the wine cellars.
However when the locals refer "Sé do Porto" also talk about the historic district which is generally considered Porto's heart.
